'SECOND TIME AROUND' PREMIERS AT GLENRIDGE

The Glenridge Performing Arts Center (GPAC, located at 7333 Scotland Way) has announced its first professional theatrical production. "We have wanted to expand our presentations to include professional live theater and the timing just worked out perfectly," says GPAC Manager Ben Turoff.

"The Second Time Around," a comedy by Henry Denker opening at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, is the story of four adult children who go comically crazy when their recently widowed parents meet, fall in love and decide to "shack up" – without getting married!

Real life husband and wife acting team Don Walker and Jenny Aldrich will play the lovebirds for director Garry Allan Breul. "The Second Time Around" is being produced by Ben Turoff, and the Glenridge Players production team will be handling sets and properties, led by Stage Manager Ken Nelson. Shows are at 8 p.m. March 10-13, with an additional matinee show on March 13 at 2 p.m., with all tickets $17.50. Call 552-5325 to reserve.

ASOLO REP PRESENTS 'MANAGING MAXINE'

Asolo Rep announces additional casting for award-winning "Managing Maxine," Janece Shaffer’s new play that takes a straightforward look at sex, love and life after 70.

The cast features Howard Elfman as Louis, the role he originated last season in the world premiere of "Managing Maxine" at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. Maxine is played by popular resident actress Sharon Spelman who returns to the Asolo Rep stage after a two-year hiatus. Completing the ensemble of seven are Granville VanDusen, Mackenzie Kyle, Jud Williford, Bethany Weise and Geraldine Librandi.

Having been widowed, the bold 71-year-old Maxine Levine has decided to ask a handsome judge, Arthur, on a date. This play explores the bitter and sweet sides of dating as a senior citizen: timeworn bodies with energetic hearts, the mourning of lost spouses, and balancing between family needs and new found loves.

"Managing Maxine" performs in the Mertz Theatre March 12-April 18, in rotating repertory. Previews are Wednesday and Thursday, March 10 and 11, at 8 p.m. Please consult the website at ASOLO.org or call the box office at 351-8000 for more information.

Single ticket prices range from $13 to $60. For single tickets, please contact the box office at 351-8000.
