TEMPLE EMANU-EL TO HOST PASSOVER SEDER

Temple Emanu-El invites the community to celebrate the first night of Passover at a Passover Seder on Monday evening, March 29, at 6 p.m. The Seder will be held at Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road.

Rabbi Brenner J. Glickman will lead a joyful Seder service using the Sarasota Haggadah, a new Haggadah he has written, edited, and assembled. Maggie Glucklich of Catering by Maggie and Veg Restaurant will cater a traditional Seder meal.

The cost of the Seder is $65 for adults and $32.50 for children 10 and under. There is no charge for children under 4 years of age. Reservation is by check or cash submitted to the office of Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, Florida 34232.

SCHOLARS IN RESIDENCE AT ST. ARMANDS LUTHERAN

Dr. Audrey West, former associate professor of New Testament at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, is the final lecturer in the 2010 Scholars in Residence at St. Armands Key Lutheran Church, 40 North Adams Drive.

Dr. West, who has her Ph. D from Duke University in the New Testament and Ethics, is lecturing on "Jesus’ Parables, Ethics and the Gospel." She lectured on March 3 and will continue the series from 10-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday March 10, and Wednesday, March 17. The March 10 lecture is titled "What are the meanings of Jesus’ parables" and the March 17 topic is "How do the parables of Jesus teach us to live?"

Dr. West is the recipient of a 2004 Best of the Christian Press award of excellence for her study of the parables published in Lutheran Women Today. She has advanced degrees from Yale Divinity School and her B.A. from the University of California, Davidson.

The lecture series is open to area residents, with coffer and refreshments at 9:45 a.m. in the church fellowship hall.

 

NEW STUDY COURSES PLANNED

First United Methodist Church at 104 S. Pineapple Ave., will hold a new Thursday at noon 7-week study for men of all ages. Beginning Thursday, April 8, and concluding Thursday, May 20, the men will study and discuss The Gospel of John.

There will also be a new Wednesday noon 6-week study for women of all ages. Beginning Wednesday, April 14, and concluding Wednesday, May 19, women are invited to study The Life You’ve Always Wanted which gives modern perspectives on the spiritual disciplines of Jesus, such as prayer, confession, servanthood and reflection. Participants bring a bag lunch.

TOT SHABBOT PROGRAMS HELD AT TEMPLE EMANU-EL

Megan Meese and Eden Glickman enjoyed a recent "Tot Shabbat" at Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, which welcomes young Jewish and interfaith families to "Tot Shabbat" on Saturday, March 20, at 10:30 a.m. "Tot Shabbat" celebrates Shabbat with a bagel breakfast, playground time and age-appropriate Shabbat prayers, songs, movement and stories with Rabbi Brenner Glickman. "Tot Shabbat" is designed especially for ages 1-6, but all are welcome. "Tot Shabbat" is free and open to the community.
